SITE CONTEXT:

Immediately adjacent to the beach at Emu Point, and orientated towards exceptional morning views to the rising sun out over the water. Subject to strong salt-laden easterlies in summer, the site sits on deep sand, with the commanding 4-story home with rooftop bar occupying a central position on the triangular corner block.

DESIGN INTENT:

The design sought to rationalise the shape of the block which ran along a different plane to the house, which was achieved by running a curved concrete wall around the site. Silvered timber arbours reminiscent of jetty piers accentuate a pathway of offset sandblasted marble, and a patterned lay of soft grey Portuguese cobbles blends the landscape materiality into the finishes on the house. The planting seeks to pull the adjacent coastal dunescape into the garden, with an endemic Poa poiformis matrix. A sculpture by April Pine is ensconced within the grasses, 'looking' out to the ocean beyond
